ニコライ･ラムさんというデザイナーが、「実際の女性の体型と比べて、着せ替え人形の体型がいかに歪められているか」を示し、「平均こそ美しい（Average is beautiful.」）と標準体型の人形「ラミリー」をデザインした、との話題。
ラミリーってオッドアイなのか。顔がどことなくアンジェリーナジョリーに似ていると思うのは私だけ？

--Nicolay, tell me about the response to your images.
--Give us the lowdown. What was the inspiration behind doing this?
Why did you thought (正しくはthink) to create "normal" Barbie?
We asked him about why he did this, then, you know what he said?
He said "I created normal Barbie because I wanted to show that 'average is beautiful.'"
Hi. I'm Nicolay Lamm. And this past year I've working on several body image projects. I wanted to show "average is beautiful."
For my first project, I showed how distorted fashion dolls are in relation to typical human body proportions. And this got me thinking, "What if fashion dolls we simply made of standard female body measurements?"
I looked at the website of the CDC and took the measurements, the average 19-year-old American woman. And 3-D printed model was made using these measurements and this model was later painted over in Photoshop to make her look doll.
These images went viral, and the response was overwhelming.

A lot of kids and parents were asking me, "Where can we buy a doll like this?"
Ever since the project, I've been working really hard to make it a reallity. And now, I want to introduce to you the Lammily-line of dolls.

事前に原稿を書いて練習したのか、ラムさんの話すスピードはかなりゆっくりめで、言い間違いや言い淀みもありません。比較的聞き取りやすいと思います。
最初のプロジェクトで現実の女性の体型と比べて人形の体型がいかに歪められているかと差を示し、それ以来「標準体型で着せ替え人形を作ったらどうなるだろう？」と考えていた、と。
CDCで平均的な19歳女性の体型を測定し、それを基に３-Ｄの人形を作成、フォトショップで加工しバービー人形と並べて広報したところ圧倒的な反響があったようです。
新聞やウェブ記事を見る限り、概ね好評だったようですね。
「多くの親子から『こんな人形はどこで買えるの？』と問い合わせがあった」らしく、プロジェクトスタート時から標準体型の人形製作に尽力してきた、と仰っています。
動画の時点ではまだ市場での商品化には至っていないようですが、予約販売は受け付けているみたい。
最後の方（2:49辺り）で
Rather than waiting for a chage to happen, let's beat the change. I need your help to cover the costs of the first production run to make the Lammily a reality.
So that our girls can grow up to become strong woman, truly confident and proud in their bodies.
「変化を待っているだけではいけません。ラミリーを現実のものにするために、初期制作費をカヴァーするだけの、あなたたちの助けが必要なのです」
続くラムさんの言葉、
「少女たちが、本当に自分の体に自信を持ち、(自分の体を)誇りに思える、強い女性になるために」
というのが印象的でした。
人形の真似をして、極端なダイエットや摂食障害に陥る女の子も実際にいるのでしょうね。
個人的にはfashion dollsにはオシャレでスリム、Victoria's Secretのモデルみたいであってほしいですけどねぇ…。
女の子の憧れですし。
ラミリー、本当に「平均的」というか「フツー」過ぎて、わざわざ人形にしなくても実際に友達にいそうな感じですから(^o^;)
