さて、野球といえば、
正岡子規。
Speaking of baseball,
Mr.Masaoka Shiki is famous in Japan.
正岡子規といえば、本名はのぼる。
His real name was Noboru.
のぼる→のぼーる→野ボール→野球
Noboru → No ball → "No" in Japanese mean "field" → field ball → Ya(Field) Kyu(ball)
ということで、Baseballは野球と訳されたそうです。
So it seems that Baseball was translated as YaKyu.
他にも、子規さんが訳された言葉が今でも多く使われているそうです。
Besides that, it seems that the word translated by Ms. Suki is still being used even now.
この碑は、上野公園、東京文化会館の西側にある野球場前にあります。
この碑は、上野公園の野球場が、正岡子規が野球をしていた場所であることを記念して作られました。
This monument is in front of the baseball stadium in the west side Tokyo Bunka Kaikan in Ueno park.
This monument was made to celebrate that the baseball field is the place where Masaoka Shiki was playing baseball.
この野球場、一般の方も、予約してレンタルできます。

正岡子規は、鶯谷駅の近く、根岸に住んでいました。
現在は、「子規庵」として公開されています。
Masaoka Shiiki lived in Negishi near Uguisudani station, next station of Ueno in Yamanote line.
The house of Shiki is now being published as "Shiki An".
