The reasons why the evaluation of ARTAS was low and it did not spread are as follows:
Firstly, because manual treatment by skilled doctors and nurses is more effective than ARTAS. While it's tempting to think that Robot + AI equals the strongest combination, the reality is that at least for now, the treatment effectiveness of skilled doctors and nurses far surpasses that of ARTAS. Especially in Japan, where people are skilled with their hands, manual treatment is more efficient and effective. Additionally, the punch needles used for manual follicle extraction have also been evolving rapidly.
Secondly, there's the issue of cost. ARTAS is expensive, costing millions of dollars per unit, and there's also a royalty payment of $1 per punch used to extract grafts. For instance, if you extract 1000 punches, you'd have to pay $140,000 in royalties alone. This cost, similar to how office copiers and printers charge a counter fee per page printed, adds to the overall treatment expense and may make it more costly for patients compared to manual FUE procedures. Considering both treatment effectiveness and cost, I believe that, at this stage, manual FUE procedures are preferable to ARTAS.
