夕刊フジの当コラムなどを再構成した拙著『トランプ大統領が嗤う 日本人の傾向と対策』（産経新聞出版）が１２日発売される。
My book compiling previous columns in Fuji Evening News and Sankei Newspaper titled “Japanese Issues and Solutions for President Trump to Ponder” (Sankei Newspaper Publishing) will be published on December 12th.
序章と第１章を読むと、ドナルド・トランプ次期米大統領への私の評価が、予備選初期から本選挙までの間に１８０度変わっていく様子が手に取るように分かり、自分でも面白かった。
A reading of the introduction and Chapter 1 will clearly show that my assessment of President-elect Donald Trump evolved 180 degrees from the early primary election season through the general election, a fact which even I found quite interesting.
宣伝はそれくらいにして、本日も「日本人の傾向と対策」を、最近の出来事から抽出しよう。
Enough for advertisement. Today I want to take a look at “Japanese Issues and Solutions” drawn from recent events.
臨時国会で、カジノを中心とする統合型リゾート施設（ＩＲ）整備推進法案が成立しそうだ。メディアはおおむねカジノ解禁に否定的である。
It appears that the Integrated Resort Facilities Promotion Bill (IR) will pass the extraordinary diet session. The media is, however, for the most part opposed to legalizing casinos.
読売新聞は１日の社説で「ギャンブルにはまった人や外国人観光客らの〝散財〟に期待し、他人の不幸や不運を踏み台にするような成長戦略は極めて不健全である」と書いた。正論に見えるが、この論理では株式取引や外国為替取引、宝くじも不健全という結論に至るのではないか。
The Yomiuri Newspaper editorial on December 1st wrote that “A growth policy predicated on the expectation that people addicted to gambling and foreign tourists will squander money while not taking into account the misery and misfortune of other people is not healthy.” This appears to be a sound argument, but by this logic are not the stock market, the foreign exchange market, and the national lottery also unhealthy?
カジノ解禁に思い入れはないが、「散財」や「弱肉強食」「ゼロサム」を全否定したら資本主義は成立しない。負の側面だけに焦点を当てて、利益考量すら拒絶する姿勢は感心しない。
I am not necessarily in favor of legalizing casinos, but without the concepts of “squandering of money,” “survival of the fittest,” and “zero-sum,” capitalism cannot exist. I am not in favor of focusing only on the negative aspects without considering any of the possible benefits.
民進党や共産党は「ギャンブル依存症が増える」「日本をギャンブル大国にするつもりか？」などと批判していた。
The Democratic Party (DP) and Japan Communist Party (JCP) offer criticisms to the effect that “Gambling addiction will increase” or “Is the intent for Japan to become a gambling empire?”
しかし、日本には競馬や競輪などの合法ギャンブルが複数ある。タテマエは「遊戯」だが、実態はギャンブルであるパチンコやパチスロの店が、全国の主要駅前に存在し、平日の朝でも、大学生や主婦などが開店前から行列している。
However, gambling is already legalized for bicycle races or horse races. While categorized for convenience as “entertainment,” pachinko [pinball or slot machine] parlors in fact exist in front of every major station throughout the country, and on weekday mornings college students, housewives, and others are lined up to await the opening time.
つまり、日本は立派なギャンブル大国であり、依存症率も高い。民進党や共産党は「パチンコなどの換金違法化」や「公営ギャンブルの規制強化」も主張しないと、カジノ法案を政争の具に利用したいだけの偽善者に見える。
In other words, Japan is already a gambling empire with a high rate of gambling addiction. Unless the DP and JCP are prepared to advocate “the prohibition of conversion of pachinko gains to cash” or “strengthening regulation of public gambling,” their opposition to the IR Bill is a mere hypocritical political stand play.
ネット上では「ユーキャン新語・流行語大賞」のトップテンに「保育園落ちた日本死ね」が入ったことが話題である。
It was in the news on the internet that “No Child Care: Japan Drop Dead” was listed in the top ten winners of the “New Words and Buzzwords-of-the-Year” sponsored by You-Can.
タレントのつるの剛士氏がツイッターで「日本死ねなんて悲しい」と感想を漏らすと、賛同者が続出した。
Personality Takeshi Tsuruno received strong support when he tweeted that he was “sad to hear Japan Drop Dead.”
２０１４年は、「集団的自衛権」と「ダメよ～ダメダメ」が年間大賞を同時受賞した。続けて読ませる意図を感じた。
In 2014, “collective self-defense” and “No way, absolutely not” tied for the title. I think the sponsors intended for these two to be read consecutively.
１５年は、「アベ政治を許さない」と「ＳＥＡＬＤｓ」がトップテン入りした。今年も政治絡みの騒動で、ネット上の反応を見る限り、冠スポンサーのイメージは悪化の一途だ。
In 2015, “Cannot Accept Abe Politics” and “SEALDs” [communist student activist group] were in the top ten. Judging from the strong negative reaction on the internet to the political entries for this year, the image of the main sponsor of this competition continues to slip.
少し調べると、１９８６年には「不快語追放応援賞」があり、「地揚げ・底地買い」が選ばれている。「日本死ね」は、この賞こそがふさわしいと思う。
Looking back, in 1986 “Award for Supporting Abolition of Unpleasant Words” and “Land Speculation; Buy Low” were chosen. I think this would be the appropriate award for “Drop Dead Japan.”
