According to Kahoku Shinpo News (August 3), Fukushima Prefecture has almost completed euthanizing pigs and chickens in No-go-zone.

"Fukushima Prefecture has euthanized about 3,000 pigs, 50 cattles, and 400 chickens during 2 months until the end of July. Including the ones that are starved to death, euthanasia of pigs and chickens has almost completed. And now, they are speeding up euthanizing cattles.
There used to be about 30,000 pigs, 3,500 cattles, and 440,000 chickens in No-go-zone before the nuclear plant accident. After No-go-zone was designated, it became impossible to take care of the animals, so Fukushima Prefecture has been euthanizing after getting owners' agreements from May 27.
Further problem is the euthanasia of the cattles. About 900 of them are already dead, but about 2,000 of them still may alive.
Fukushima Prefecture intends to complete until this autumn.
Over 2,000 pigs has euthanized in Mitsuo Maeda's farm in Minamisoma City.
He has gone to the farm from the shelter to fed his pigs even after the nuclear plant accident. But it was difficult to take care of them and sanitary condition got worse. So he finally accepted euthanizing the pigs.
He has been hearing a scream of pigs for a month. He couldn't believe what was happening and kept thinking "should be a mistake".
Some of the pigs were transported to Tokyo University to observe the influence of radiation."

Why…? Why do animals have to be killed? Why does the government only think about KILLING?
During 4 months, tons of mails, e-mails, petitions, demanding papers and signatures are sent to the government. But they are just ignoring people's opinions and do what they want.
I heard that pigs were screaming here and there. Is it really "enthanasia"?

「福島県は、７月末までの２ヵ月間で、豚約3,000頭、牛約50頭、ニワトリ約400羽を処分した。これまでに餓死した分も含めると、豚とニワトリの処分はほぼ終了し、牛の処分を本格化させる。
警戒区域内には原発事故前まで、豚約３万頭、牛約3500頭、ニワトリ約44万羽が飼育されていた。しかし事故により警戒区域が設定されてからは、家畜の世話をすることが不可能になり、県は5月27日から、所有者の同意のうえで殺処分している。
今後の課題は牛の処分。約900頭はすでに死んだが、まだ2,000頭ほどが生き残っているとみられる。
福島県は、秋までには処分を終わらせたい考えだ。
南相馬市の前田光雄さんの農場では、約2,000頭の豚が処分された。原発事故の後も、避難所から餌やりに通っていたが、世話をするのは難しく、衛生状態も悪化していき、最終的に殺処分を受け入れた。
前田さんは１ヶ月間、豚の悲鳴を聞き続けた。現実を前にしても、「何かの間違いだ」と繰り返した。
豚の何頭かは、放射線の影響を観察するために東京大などに送られた」。

なぜ…？なぜ彼らは殺されなければならないの？なぜ政府は「殺す」ことしか考えないの？
この４ヶ月間、数え切れないほどの手紙、メール、嘆願書、要望書、署名が政府に届いているのに。
政府は国民の声をただ無視して、やりたいようにやっている。
あちこちで豚が悲鳴を上げているという。本当に「安楽死」なの？
政府は「安楽死」すると約束したよね…
私はとても強い怒りを感じる。こんな感情を抱いたことは今までにない。この国が恐ろしい。
動物たちの命を守れない政府なら、国民の命だって守れない。
豚たち、ニワトリたち、たくさんの動物たちを助けることができなくて本当に悲しい。本当に申し訳ない。
どうやって彼らに謝ればいいのだろう。だれが、どうすれば2,000頭の牛を助けてあげられるのだろう。
